Types of FSSAI registrations :

  • FSSAI Basic Registration : This FSSAI registration is required for small businesses or startups like petty food manufacturers and the small-sized manufacturers, storage units, transporters, retailers, marketers, distributors etc who have annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs. The Basic registration can be upgraded to State license as your sales graph increases.
  • FSSAI State License : This registration/license is applicable to mid-sized companies like small to medium sized manufacturers, storage units, transporters, retailers, marketers, distributors who have annual turnover between Rs.12-20 crores. This license is issued by the State Government and it is mandatory that you operate in only 1 state, in order to obtain the State license.
  • FSSAI Central License : This registration/license is applicable for large businesses like Importers, 100% Export Oriented Units, large manufacturers, operators in the Central Government agencies, airports, seaports etc with annual turnover above Rs.20 crores. This is issued by the Central Government.

Food License Registration (FSSAI) Procedure

FSSAI registration/license is based on the business volume and premises. Based on the capacity or turnover or location, the applicant is eligible for the license such as basic license, central license and state license. The FSSAI Bangalore registration procedure is as follows :

  • FSSAI registration is initiated by submitting the application to the Food and Safety Department.
  • This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the date of receipt of an application and the rejection has to be intimated to the applicant in writing
  • If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.
  • FBO should prominently display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.

FSSAI registration documents required are as follows -

  • Declaration form
  • Authority letter
  • Copy of Rent agreement (If rented property)
  • Food Safety Management System plan or certificate
  • Electricity/ Water bill (Business Place)

Procedure for State License Application:

  • Once you check the eligibility and if you are eligible for multiple licenses then you can apply for a state license individually.
  • You will be then directed to the State Licensing page where you will fill out the application shown according to the Act of food security, 2006.
  • It is filled in the same way as central.

Documents required for obtaining the Central license:

FSSAI license documents for the Central food license are as follows

  • Form B duly completed and signed.
  • Plan of the processing unit.
  • List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor along with the address, contact details, and photo ID.
  • List of equipment and machinery to be used with the number and installed capacity.
  • List of food categories to be manufactured.
  • Authority letter from a manufacturer
  • Report of Analysis for water to be used in the process
  • Source of raw material for milk, meat etc
  • Recall plan where needed
  • Ministry of Commerce Certificate for 100% EOU
  • NOC/PA document issued by FSSAI
  • IE code document issued by DGFT
  • Form IX
  • Certificate from Ministry of Tourism
  • Proof of possession of premises
  • Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship
  • NOC and copy of License from the manufacturer
  • NOC from the municipality or local body
  • Food safety management system plan or certificate

Documents required for obtaining the state license:

The following documents are required for the State food License

  • Form B duly completed and signed.
  • Plan of the processing unit revealing every dimension and operation-wise area allocation
  • List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor along with the address, contact details, and photo ID
  • Name and list of equipment and machinery to be used with the number and installed capacity
  • List of food category to be manufactured
  • Authority letter from a manufacturer
  • Report of Analysis for water to be used in the process
  • Proof of possession of premises
  • Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship
  • NOC and copy of License from the manufacturer
  • Copy of certificate obtained under the Coop Act 1861 or Multistate Coop Act 2002
  • Food safety management system plan or certificate
  • Form IX
